Trip to Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik
Beautiful Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful cities in Croatia and the entire Mediterranean. Many sites, magazines and documentaries always rank Dubrovnik among the 5 most beautiful destinations in the Mediterranean.
For decades, Dubrovnik has been surprising a large number of visitors every day with its pristine and unique beauties. One of the biggest attractions of Dubrovnik is the city walls, which stretch for 1940 meters in the shape of an irregular polygon. They consist of the main city wall, three fortresses, sixteen towers, six bastions, two corner fortifications – cantons, three ditches, three pre-walls with a series of towers, two fortifications – fortresses and breakwaters and two city drawbridges on the side of Ploče and Pila, which at night raised and thus closed the entrance to the city. The thickness of the wall varies from 1.5 to 3 meters on the land side and 4 to 6 meters on the seaside. Walls surround the entire old town and climb to a height of 24 meters.
Today, the Rector’s Palace is a historical museum within the Dubrovnik Museums. The courtyard is furnished with period furniture from the last period of the 19th century Dubrovnik Republic. The furniture itself did not originally belong to the Rector’s Palace, but was collected for years from old Dubrovnik palaces, summer houses and town houses.
A famous saying goes – “If you didn’t walk down Stradun, you haven’t even been in Dubrovnik”. Stradun stretches in the east-west direction and is located between the gates of two drawbridges Pila and Ploče. You will be able to see sights such as the Sponza Palace and the Church of St. Vlaho, the saint guardian of Dubrovnik, and an interesting fact is that Stradun almost every year takes a place in the top 10 destinations to celebrate the New Year.
The Srđ cable car was built back in 1969 and connects the settlement of Ploče with the hill. It was completely destroyed during the civil war and in 2010 it was rebuilt and put back into operation. The ride takes about 5 minutes and provides visitors with the most spectacular panoramic view of Dubrovnik. At the top of the cable car there is a restaurant with a beautiful terrace overlooking Dubrovnik, and in addition you can find a cafe with fast food and a souvenir shop.
